ZX4900P Series
PICMG 2.16 Gigabit Ethernet Switch
Main Features
  • OpenArchitect 3.0 provides a complete Layer 2/3 switch management platform, customized for embedded Ethernet networks such as AdvancedTCA™ chassis.
  • 24 Gbps non-blocking switch fabric supports full line-speed
  • Enhanced Protocol Stack provides OSPF, RIPv1/v2, IGMP, and more.
  • 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet enables a <3uS latency for building misison-critical high-speed communications applications while maintaining backwards compatible with legacy equipment.
Product Overview:
The recent growth in communication services has led to a convergence of data and voice networks, requiring multiple communications services from a single platform. The ZX4900P provides a fully redundant embedded Ethernet subsystem to control communications between PICMG 2.16 chassis devices. The ZX4900P with OpenArchitect provides OEMs with the tools required to create value-added services that differentiate their products.
Gigabit Ethernet Subsystem
The ZX4900P includes a complete embedded Gigabit Ethernet subsystem providing line-rate switching / routing for up to 19 payload slots. An additional four Fiber LC connectors are presented to the front panel for external connections.
Designed for PICMG 2.16
The ZX4900P was designed to provide advanced features to PICMG 2.16 platforms. The ZX4900P is PICMG 2.1 HotSwap compliant, allowing for the safe insertion/extraction of live boards. For managing failovers between the redundant switch hardware, the ZX4900P utilizes the internal F-port on the backplane for instant-failover operations. In addition, the ZX4900P is PICMG 2.9 IPMI compliant, providing important switch health information to the host IPMI controller for easy integration into existing network infrastructures.
Extensibility
The feature that most separates the OpenArchitect solution from proprietary control plane software, is the cost effective "extensibility". OpenArchitect value-added extensions are developed with standard Linux tools. Using standard Linux tools reduces the developer tool cost - some times in the tens of thousands of dollar range - and greatly increases the pool of available engineering talent.
Another benefit of the Linux development and Networking environment is the vast amount of open source applications and utilities available. These applications consistently move to the OpenArchitect switch management environment with little of no modification, i.e. compile and go.
High Availability
The ZX4900P was designed for demanding High Availability applications where downtime is unacceptable. The ZX4900P hardware provides full support the PICMG 2.1 HotSwap specification which ensures there is no electrical operation side effects when inserting or extracting the ZX4900P from a PICMG 2.1 compliant system.
The ZX4900P is offered with OpenArchitect/HA Suite software, an upgrade to OpenArchitect Switch Management that provides Service Continuity to ZNYX Networks embedded Ethernet switches. OpenArchitect/HA Suite includes:
OA/Node High Availability Host Drivers -
Provides a persistent IP address across redundant Ethernet ports on the host system. In the event of a port failure, the IP address will not change, permitting applications to run seamlessly during hardware failures.
Remote Switch-to-Switch Monitoring -
Configure switches to monitor the health of other switches on the network.
Deterministic Startup -
Boot within certain time within parameters
CentralAuthority third-party autoconfiguration -
Automatically configures Ethernet switches once they are discovered on the network from a central location.
SurvivingPartner autoconfiguration -
Automatically configures Ethernet switches by pairing them with a "partner" switch on the network. When a failure occurs, and the Ethernet switch is replaced, the partner switch will transmit the configuration file.
