Product Overview:

Optimized for use in popular 14-node slot systems, the switches are designed to meet the slot, power and cooling budgets of 10U and smaller chassis. Chassis management is achieved through IPMI support, with integrated temperature and voltage sensors for added reliability. The single-chip Intel® IXE5416 Media Switch handles an array of functions that many other designs must perform by using multiple chips, including hardware-based wire-speed L2 switching and L3 routing, L2 and L3 Class of Service, and multicast support.

This CompactPCI/PICMG 2.16 switch is available in either a standard Layer 3 version—the ZT 8102 switch—or an enhanced Layer 3 version with high availability software stack—the ZT 8102HA switch. The high availability software package enables switch-to-switch failover for continuous network availability, while auto-configuration complements the hot swap capability for ease of service.

OpenArchitect Switch Management
The OpenArchitect software component – open source Linux, IP protocol stack, control applications and the OA Engine – runs on an embedded Motorola MPC8255 PowerPC microprocessor. OpenArchitect provides extensive managed IP routing protocols and other open standards for switch management. Examples include network services; Virtual Redundant Router Protocol; Routing Information Protocol; Open Shortest Path First; Border Gateway Protocol; IP Multicast, Quality of Service and Class of Service; access control lists; and management via Simple Network Management Protocol MIBs , Common Open Policy Services and web.
Softswitch Flexibility with Silicon Speeds
The OA Engine is the bridge between the software environment and high performance switch fabric. The engine transparently moves routing policies established by software to the switch fabric's forwarding table. This bridge enables line rate packet switching, executed on a silicon switch fabric chip, that is managed by open source routing protocols -- a quick time-to-market, feature-rich protocol set.
Single or Multi-mode Fiber
14 of the Gigabit Ethernet ports are routed to the backplane and two are routed to the front panel as SFP (Small Form Pluggable) fiber uplink ports. The SFP modules may be independently field configured for mutli-mode (1000Base-SX) or single-mode (1000Base-LX) media to accommodate short-haul and long-haul links as desired extending transmission distances to 10km with the high reliability of fiber without requiring a rear transition board. This makes the ZT8102 ideal for connecting campus and MAN networks, using any of the suite of OpenArchitect-based routing and management protocols.
High Availability
The ZT8102 was designed for demanding High Availability applications where downtime is unacceptable. The ZT8102 hardware provides full support for the PICMG 2.1 HotSwap specification which ensures there is no electrical operation side effects when inserting or extracting the ZX4800 from a PICMG 2.1 compliant system.

The ZT8102 is offered with OpenArchitect/HA Suite software enabled(ZT8102-HA), an upgrade to OpenArchitect Switch Management that provides Service Continuity to ZNYX Networks embedded Ethernet switches. OpenArchitect/HA Suite includes:
OA/Node High Availability Host Drivers -
Provides a persistent IP address across redundant Ethernet ports on the host system. In the event of a port failure, the IP address will not change, permitting applications to run seamlessly during hardware failures.
Remote Switch-to-Switch Monitoring -
Configure switches to monitor the health of other switches on the network.
Deterministic Startup -
Boot within certain time within parameters
CentralAuthority third-party autoconfiguration -
Automatically configures Ethernet switches once they are discovered on the network from a central location.
SurvivingPartner autoconfiguration -
Automatically configures Ethernet switches by pairing them with a "partner" switch on the network. When a failure occurs, and the Ethernet switch is replaced, the partner switch will transmit the configuration file.
Management
The front panel includes one out-of-band 10/100 Mbps management port and one serial management port. In-band management is also provided for switch configuration across a network.Chassis managment is achieved through IPMI support with integrated temperature and voltage sensors for added reliability.
