ZNYX Networks Joins Intel® Communications Alliance
Advancing Telecom Industry Adoption of AdvancedTCA™ Architecture
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA - December 11, 2003 - ZNYX Networks, the leading provider of high-availability embedded Ethernet solutions for CarrierClass™ systems, has been selected for membership in the Intel® Communications Alliance. The Intel Communications Alliance is a worldwide community of more than 60 leading communications and embedded developers and solutions providers who support the transition to modular communications platforms based on industry standards, including CompactPCI™ (PICMG 2.16) and the new AdvancedTCA™ (ATCA) (PICMG 3.0) architecture.
At ITU Telecom World 2003 in Geneva, ZNYX Networks® announced the ZX5000 AdvancedTCA switch, the world's first Gigabit Ethernet switch based on the ATCA architecture.
"The ZX5000 delivers an essential core component, the base fabric switch, to the ATCA ecosystem at the critical early stages of development for the next generation of telecom equipment," said Connie Austin, President and CEO of ZNYX Networks.
The ZNYX Networks product line also includes OpenArchitect® for managed switches, a high-availability control plane software platform that manages the Intel® Media Switch IXE5416 controller to deliver non-blocking L2-L7 switching, VLAN control, class of service and filtering, with high-speed fault tolerant failover on a switch-to-switch, VLAN-to-VLAN, or port-to-port basis.
The OpenArchitect platform, used in both the Intel® NetStructure™ ZT 8102 CompactPCI switch and the new ZNYX Networks ZX5000 ATCA switch, enables telecom equipment manufacturers and systems integrators to easily migrate their high-availability routing solutions and applications from CompactPCI to the AdvancedTCA standard. Applications include cellular phone base station controllers and radio network controllers for 3G cellular networks capable of supporting advanced wireless services including instant two-way cell phone "push-to-talk" systems and mobile entertainment networks.
"The ability to move high availability routing software to ATCA systems is contributing to the strong industry momentum behind the new standard", said Ms. Austin. "Improving product performance is just one of our design goals. The shift to convergence is also about providing our customers with more options. "
"The Intel Communications Alliance is a leading program for communications infrastructure developers and solution providers, and we are pleased to welcome ZNYX as our newest member." said Anthony Ambrose, general manager, Marketing and Platform Programs, Communications Infrastructure Group at Intel. "The ZNYX Networks ZX5000 ATCA switch complements Intel's new AdvancedTCA product line, including chassis, single-board computers (SBCs) and management modules, and accelerates the adoption of modular communications platforms."
Since its inception in 1993, ZNYX Networks has pioneered the development of "out of the box" modular high availability embedded Ethernet solutions designed for equipment manufacturers and system integrators serving the carrier and service provider environments. The extensive ZNYX Networks product line includes standards-based embedded switches and adapters complemented by the OpenArchitect high-availability software platform.
In addition to meeting high availability performance standards, OEMs can utilize the flexibility of OpenArchitect software to tailor routing environments to fit their application-specific requirements, while system integrators benefit from the platform's extensible Linux network API. By using OpenArchitect software, equipment manufacturers and system integrators can build powerful, high availability telecommunications solutions with standard components, enabling more rapid deployment and shorter time-to-market.
