ZNYX Announces the Immediate Availability of Solaris 7.0 Drivers for Company's NetBlaster Adapters
Solaris 7.0 Drivers Provide 64-bit Architecture and High Availability Networking Across PCI, PMC and cPCI Systems
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA, USA (August 10, 1999) - ZNYX Corporation, a leader in providing high availability networking solutions for Embedded and Telephony applications, today announced the availability of Sun Solaris™ 7.0 drivers for the company’s NetBlaster™ CompactPCI, PMC and PCI multi-channel Fast Ethernet adapter product lines. The drivers support Solaris version 7.0 for both SPARC™ and Intel® Pentium® processor - based platforms . Embedded in the driver is ZNYX’s RAINlink™ technology that provides redundant links with fast failover, system-to-switch, and system-to-system trunking.
"Solaris 7.0's 64-bit technology is offering users dramatic increases in performance, scalability and capacity. Many of the new telephony and Internet applications offered by Solaris 7.0 depend on high quality adapters that are compatible with the 64-bit architecture," said Jay Cowan, Product Marketing Manager for ZNYX Corporation. "The availability of ZNYX's drivers allows developers to immediately implement Solaris 7.0's impressive networking capabilities across PCI, PMC and CompactPCI systems while maintaining high availability networking through RAINlink."
RAINlink utilizes multiple network ports to establish a redundant path between servers, switches, workstations and desktops, and provides fast deterministic failover by placing the secondary Ethernet channel in a hot standby state. When a failure is detected on the primary port, RAINlink redirects traffic to a secondary port within milliseconds. Internet Protocol connections are maintained during the failover transition. Both port-to-port and board-to-board failover mechanisms are supported. RAINlink's system-to-switch trunking can be used to connect to Cisco® Fast EtherChannel compatible switches. In addition, the trunking capability can provide incremental scalability between 100 and 400 Mbps. System-to-system trunking provides the same capability by providing a multi-channel trunk between two Solaris platforms.
The Solaris 7.0 Operating Environment provides enhanced performance and scalability for both SPARC and Intel® Pentium® processor - based platforms via a full 64-bit kernel. The 64-bit capacity allows many more applications to be consolidated onto a single server running the Solaris Operating Environment and adds increased headroom to existing hardware. Because the Solaris 7.0 Operating Environment is fully binary compatible with previous releases, all existing applications can run unmodified and side-by-side with 64-bit applications. When these same applications are extended to take full advantage of the 64-bit capabilities, customers can achieve record-breaking performance.
"ZNYX's availability of Solaris 7.O Drivers is in direct response to the market requirements for mission-critical applications," said Wahid Umerani, marketing manager, marketing development for Sun Microsystems' Microelectronics Division. "We are proud to see ZNYX develop its drivers for Solaris 7.0, thus utilizing the important features of Solaris 7.0 OS in terms of high-performance, scalability, reliability and security."
"Right now, many companies are racing to develop large telephony applications that take advantage of the power of the new Solaris platform. The availability of PCI, CompactPCI and PMC adapters that are compatible with this operating system is critical to companies that want to implement the 64-bit architecture across their overworked networks," said Bob Miller, director of software engineering, ZNYX Corporation. "Our Portable Driver Kit or PDK, which carries portable driver code across operating systems and processors, has allowed us to quickly create a driver for Solaris 7.0 and address the immediate needs of mission-critical systems."
Solaris 7.0 driver is now available at ZNYX's website, www.znyx.com. NetBlaster CompactPCI adapters are available in two, four, and eight channel models supporting 3U and 6U slots, Hot Swap and front or rear panel I/O. Prices for the NetBlaster CompactPCI series range from $699 to $2699. The NetBlaster PMC series range from $749 for two channels to $1049 for four channels. The NetBlaster PCI series include one, two, and four channel models with pricing ranging from $99 to $699.
