ZNYX Demonstrates Token Ring Over ISL Technology at NetWorld+Interop
Cisco Token Ring Inter-Switch Link (TRISL) protocol enables 100 Mbps Token Ring
ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA (October 21, 1998) - ZNYX Corporation joined Cisco Systems
at the Atlanta NetWorld+Interop in the first public demonstration of a Token Ring/Ethernet
Inter-Switch Link (ISL) network adapter card.
Two Protocols, One Adapter
Installed in a 400 MHz
Intel® Pentium® II processor -based NT Server, the ZNYX adapter demonstrated multiple
virtual LAN (VLAN) connectivity to both Token Ring and Fast Ethernet clients.
Two workstations, one of them on Token Ring and another on Fast Ethernet, simultaneously
accessed the same server through this single adapter, while playing a total of
eight 30+ MB movie files over the network. By employing Ciscos Token Ring
over Inter-Switch Link (TRISL) technology, the adapter used the wide 100 Mbps
bandwidth of Ciscos Fast EtherChannel to simultaneously serve both the Token
Ring and Fast Ethernet clients with high-speed server access.
In this configuration, the ZNYX adapter in the server was connected to a 12-port
Cisco WS-X5213A Fast EtherChannel switching module in a Cisco Catalyst 5505 switch.
Out of another port of the same module, a cable was connected to the Fast Ethernet
client. Meanwhile, the data for the Token Ring client was passed from the WS-X5213A
module through the bus of the Catalyst 5505 and was picked up by a 16-port WS-X5030
Token Ring Switching Module. A port on the WS-X5030 module then connected to the
Token Ring client.
High Speed, High Reliability Alternative to High Speed Token Ring (HSTR)
Targeted at companies that have a mixture of Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Token Ring network topologies, the ZNYX VLAN adapter technology is an ideal solution for enterprises powered with Cisco switches. Instead of operating at 16 or 4 Mbps, the ISL/TRISL technology will support network links operating at 100 Mbps or more. Because the adapter will also incorporate ZNYXs RAIN (Redundant Array
of Independent Netports) technology, as many as four adapters can be installed
in one server, providing link aggregation and a total of 800 Mbps full duplex.
When used in this manner, fast failover and load balancing will also be available
for Enterprise level support.
