ZNYX RAINswitch Adapter Provides Improved Network Management
and Failover Characteristics Using Java-based Management Software
Innovative server-centric switching adapters offer gigabit per second server link
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA (AUGUST 25, 1997) - ZNYX Corporation, a leading worldwide
provider of server connectivity solutions, today announced the availability of
RAINswitch™ Release 2. ZNYX RAINswitch is a modular Fast Ethernet switching
adapter product line for PC and Macintosh servers to intelligently switch network
traffic on dedicated network segments. RAINswitch Release 2 now affords network
managers sophisticated functions such as SNMP network management, IEEE Spanning
Tree support, and security through advanced administrative controls. In addition,
built-in to the RAINswitch is the ability to perform future product upgrades through
simple firmware updates. These functions can be accessed using ZNYX's new Java-based
software, RAINmanager™.
RAINswitch delivers the highest possible performance by directly interfacing
with the server's PCI bus to provide a one Gigabit per second (Gbps) link to the
server. To further improve network performance, RAINswitch off-loads basic network
traffic from the host system CPU using a RISC-based accelerator module with dedicated
high speed memory.
"Using industry standards the RAINswitch utilizes the PCI bus to achieve
a one gigabit per second link to the server with true zero latency," said

The ZNYX RAINswitch product line consists of two- and four-channel models for

can easily upgrade to take advantage of RAINswitch Release 2 functionality.
RAINswitch Management by RAINmanager Software
RAINmanager software is platform-independent and can be accessed from any
Java-enabled system, even from remote locations. Network managers can use RAINmanager to:

an innovative technology that delivers high availability and high performance
for intranet servers. RAIN technology delivers new functionality in a "building
block" fashion using industry standards for switching, clustering, security,
data integrity and support for multimedia data streams. RAINswitch implements
RAIN Level 1 (Switching). Other levels of RAIN can be implemented with simple
software upgrades.
