HANNOVER, Germany (4-March-1997) - ZNYX Corporation, a leading provider of Fast Ethernet server-enhancement solutions, today announced a family of server switches. The ZNYX RAINswitch^TM ZX346ARS four-channel and the ZX348ARS two-channel Fast Ethernet switches both feature a 1 Gbps server link and a RISC-based accelerator module. Each switch is based upon ZNYX’s Redundant Array of Independent Netports (RAIN^TM) technology to deliver high availability and high performance. ZNYX will be showcasing these products at CeBIT ’97 at the USA Software Pavilion, Booth A12.

"By installing a ZNYX RAINswitch into a PC or Macintosh server, users can divide their network into multiple 10/100 Mbps segments, bridge between various speeds and protocols–and still connect to the server at a gigabit-per-second rate. These multi-channel switches are ideal for today’s higher performance servers with multiple processors."

ZNYX server switches are based upon RAIN, ZNYX’s innovative, multi-level initiative to incrementally add performance, redundancy and integrity to existing Ethernet and Fast Ethernet data networks. (See separate news release, ZNYX Improves Network Availability and Performance, dated 4-March-1997.)

The RAINswitch ZX346ARS and ZX348ARS are server switches which implement RAIN Level 1 (server switching) with a programmable switching engine. Compared to conventional switches with fixed-function switching controllers, the ZNYX design supports advanced switching and future features using an Intel̉ i960 RISC processor and high-speed, zero wait-state EDO memory. The ZX346ARS and ZX348ARS can be also be enhanced with new RAIN technologies using simple software updates.

The retail price for the four-channel Fast Ethernet RAINswitch with a gigabit-per-second link is US$ 1799–or less than US$ 360 per channel. RAINswitch products will be available from ZNYX’s worldwide reseller and OEM partners beginning in March 1997.
